As a species that has not yet fully evolved, we love conspiracy theories. From the gossip that jumps across boundary walls to the crazy theories that float around online, we all have our favourite versions of the truth. The scary part is that some of these theories even turn out to be true.
One theory I firmly believe is that we might actually be the aliens on this planet — beings who came from the stars. This idea has two main branches. One version claims we arrived in spaceships, wiped out the dinosaurs, and took over the world. The other, more believable version is that human life began thanks to the essence of meteors that crashed onto this planet millions of years ago.
I find the second theory far more convincing. Under the right conditions we evolved and reached our present stage over millions of years. This view seems even more plausible when you look at the chemical composition of the meteors that still fall all over the planet — they contain the basic building blocks of life.
Now that we are here and filling the planet with our progeny, it is only natural to wonder in which direction we are heading. There are conspiracy theories that point to a very dismal future for humanity. Looking at the state of the world today, the chances of those theories proving correct seem rather high. But for once I hope the doomsday theories are all wrong, and that we as a species finally evolve enough to learn how to survive peacefully on this tiny blue dot in the cosmos.
